Melinda Russek

The Jackson County Arts Council is thrilled to welcome the latest Rotunda Gallery Artist Melinda Russek.

Melinda Russek, EdD candidate, is an art and art history teacher at a K-12 place-based school and an adjunct professor of art education at Western Carolina University. Previously, she was an art and art history teacher in Florida at a K-8th cooperative learning school in a Title I neighborhood. She also has experience teaching art to learners in elementary, middle, and high school in summer camps. She is working on her EdD in Leadership at the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio. She is also a photographer, artist, and writer.

M. Russek’s research considers the ideas of cooperation and collaboration in learning, focusing primarily on the art classroom and how the connections between art and students form social bonds that go beyond the classroom. Using creative approaches to lesson planning, she explores humanism and critical thinking with regards to critical theory in education to consider how we can create a better world by focusing on the individual’s positive experience. She is a member of the National Art Education Association, Emerging Museum Professionals, and Sylva Art and Design Committee. She has her own design company, M. Russek Design Online.
